The story of Building Villa IzaJay

First Holiday in Bali

We spent our first long holiday in Bali back in 2016 when our first child was born, and we liked it so much that we started to discuss buying land in Bali. At this point we didn’t plan to build a villa since both of us still was working in Sweden, so it was more as an investment for future use.

Since we were staying in a rented villa in Seminyak at this time we started looking around in south Bali. But we quickly realized that there was not much attractive land available as freehold in south Bali, especially since we wanted to either be close to the beach or have a nice undisrupted ocean view.

Giving the North of Bali a try

When coming close to the end of our stay in Bali we decided to give north Bali a try, and we encountered Jeroen Franken from Palm Living, who drove us around for a day showing available land, both beach front and up in the hills. As well as showing us some nice newly built villas in the area to give us some inspiration for what Palm Living could build.

After a while we went up to Kayuputih where Jeroen showed a perfect 20 are plot with a magnificent ocean view.

In Love, and back to Lovina

We immediately fell in love with this plot and felt that it would be a perfect spot for a future villa!

So, in July 2016 we went back to Lovina and signed the contract to purchase this land.

Construction of Villa IzaJay

In late 2019 we were expecting our second child, and we wanted to escape the Swedish winter and stay in Bali again, and this is when the plan to build Villa IzaJay started.

We engaged Palm Living to build our villa, and Roland and his team started to work on ideas for the design and deliver drawings. This was our first time building a villa and we really didn’t know much about the process, but we got excellent support from Palm Living during the whole process. They handled all the required building permits, IMB license, rental license and all other details we didn’t know anything about as non-Bali residents.

Modern, Luxury Villa Design

We knew that we wanted a very modern, luxury international design with a large swimming pool, and four bedrooms. But that was basically the only idea we had, plus a lot of photos from other villas built by Palm Living as reference. And the villa also must be built for rental purposes, since we only will be able to spend 2-3 months per year there ourselves.

Palm Living put a lot of effort in this, and we felt that Roland and the team very quickly understood exactly what we aimed for and could convert this into drawings and 3D pictures.
So, after several changed drawings we agreed on a final version and a fixed price and were ready to start building in December 2019.

Like we were there

Our initial plan was to be there at least two times during the construction period to see the progress and start looking for furniture and other interior designs. But then came Covid….
So, we had to follow the whole process by looking at photos and videos supplied by Roland every week, followed by numerous Facetime and WhatsApp calls. Which made us feel like we almost were there. In total Roland sent us over 3.000 photos and videos during the construction process.

Smooth Issues

Of course, some changes and other issues came up during construction, but everything was handled smoothly and there were never any discussions regarding extra cost for changes. We also had some small delays in material deliveries from Java that was caused by Covid, but since we didn’t plan to be there until December 2020 this didn’t cause any issues for us.

Construction and all necessary furniture, that also was supplied by Palm Living, was finished in November 2020, and we could finally arrive there ourselves in mid-December 2020.

With Roland and the team ready to welcome us on arrival.

We are so very happy and pleased with the result.

Villa IzaJay, now serves as a rental villa when we cannot be there ourselves, this is also managed by Palm Living that handles everything regarding bookings, guest relations and also all necessary maintenance.
